Beauty

Beauty is skin deep, they say,

It will eventually fade away.

For soon you will be old and grey,

As you near your final days.

Beauty is not everything, it is said,

You can't get by with just a pretty head.

That is why, long after they are dead,

Great men's feats are remembered and read.

Yet beauty is a gift, they claim,

History gives beauty great fame.

It might be fleeting, but all the same,

We still recall Cleopatra, the lovely dame.

Beauty is something all mortals revere,

But it will invariably disappear.

A beautiful body may perish, however,

A beautiful soul lasts forever.
